History
The Taylor-Stevenson Ranch, more than 150 years old, has remained in the same family for seven generations. It is an authentic, real-life, working ranch. The ranch is also the site of Pierce Junction oil field --the second oldest producing oil strike in the state of Texas.
The ranch
was established in the mid-1800's by E.R. Taylor and his slave, Ann, who together raised six (6) children. Their granddaughter, Mollie Taylor married Ben Stevenson, a Tuskeegee University football legend, in the 1930's. Ben Stevenson was inducted in 2003 into the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame at a ceremony in South Bend, Indiana.
Five Stevenson children, Sandra Rigsby, Ben Taye Choice, Ben Stevenson II, Mollie Stevenson Jr., Major Stevenson and their families all live on the ranch. A sister, Barbara Marshall, resides in the city.
The great-grandchildren of Ben and Mollie Stevenson represent the seventh generation of the family to continue this western tradition.
